Have you ever inspected your mouth for any signs of periodontal disease? If you feel as if your gums look different or even feel different, take a closer look and set up a daily checklist to determine if periodontal disease is present. Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, means there is an infection in your gum tissue. If any symptoms are present, it’s important to visit your dentist for the necessary treatment.

Gum disease can arise in many forms. If you are suffering from gum disease, it is important to look for the symptoms associated with it. This can include changes in how your teeth are moving in relation to your mouth. If you notice any signs of your permanent teeth moving, or have an increased sensitivity with your teeth, it could be related to an issue with your gums. Similarly, if you notice any tenderness when you touch your teeth or are experiencing excessive swelling or inflammation, gum disease may be present.

Other common signs to look out for include bleeding gums that continue to bleed frequently, especially during heavy periods of activities such as mealtime or when brushing or flossing. Issues that often arise in conjunction with gum disease include halitosis and gum recession. If you are suffering from gum recession and your gums are pulling away from your teeth, or pus or sores are present between your teeth and gums, you may be suffering from gum disease.
